Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Q. What is the procedure regarding tipping?
  • Tipping for porters and guides on the climb is included in the cost of $2100. You may at your discretion tip additionally AFTER the climb is over and very discretely to specific individuals but out of eye sight of other porters so as to not create any discention among them.
  • Q. Is possible to leave baggage at the hotel during the climb?
  • Yes there will be space to store extra baggage.  Please bring locks though.
  • Q. How does sharing a night pack work? Do I need to bring one?
  • You will need to provide one for the guide to carry (usually on their head or shoulder).  Something like a large duffel bag will work well especially if it is rubberized otherwise store items in large plastic bags inside the duffel.
  • Q. Are tents provided?
  • Yes.
  • Q. Do you recommend a sleeping pad and, if so, is there one you recommend?
  • Yes a good sleeping pad is a must.  Check out REI for the brand Thermarest. It would be a good choice and they come in many different styles even ones for women. Do not get too long of one or it might not fit in the tent!  As an alternative you can rent them in Moshi (no guarantees on quality though).

  • Q. Do you have a particular daypack that you recommend? (or a particular size?)?
  • I would go to a specialty store like REI and have a saleperson fit one to you. They also come especially designed for women.  You will need to carry 20 pounds in it. The sooner you are able to start training while wearing your 20 pound pack the better it will be for you.

  • Q. Would you recommend getting there on the 27th, to get a full day off, or would you say that arriving on the night of the 28th is fine?
  • I would definitely suggest you arrive on the 27th.  You’ll need a day to rest and adjust to the time change.  The cost of the hotel is approx 90.00US$ per night. Arrival in Moshi should be no later than the 28th Feb as the climb starts of 1st March.  Departure from Moshi should be 7th March after Breakfast. All flights out of Kilimanjaro Airport should be booked for Midday onwards.

  • Q. The price includes two nights at the base hotel. Is this two nights before or one night before one after?
  • One Night before i.e 28th Feb and One Night after i.e 6th March 2010.
  • Q. What is the procedure if someone is not able to complete the climb midway up?
  • The Climbers who do not summit are brought back to the base hotel by the guide/s.  They will not stay up on the mountain as the reason for not making the summit will mainly be altitude sickness so they will have to be brought off the mountain. Once at the base Hotel they are free to return to Nairobi and we will assist to make this arrangement or they can choose to stay at the base hotel waiting for the group to return.  The cost of the accommodation at the base Hotel will be direct to the climber with the exception of the night of 06th March which is part of the Climb package. Cost of Base Hotel accommodation ranges from USD 60.00 to USD 90.00 Single / Double Room on Halfboard Basis.
